Many beer lovers enjoy the process of sipping a foamy brew, but want to add a little kick to the party. That is to say, they wish to raise the alcohol content by adding another form of alcohol to the beer before consumption. Enter the Boilermaker. Some version of the Boilermaker is available in virtually every bar in the world. Traditionally it is a shot of bourbon or whiskey that has been poured or dropped into a beer. However, in recent years, many people have gotten creative and experimented with the flavors of tequila and vodka in lieu of the bourbon or whiskey. Also, when Boilermakers were first served, they idea was to down the shot and then chase it with a beer. Now the shot is usually poured or dropped into the glass. Try the Traditional BoilermakerThe traditional Boilermaker is served with slightly less than a pint of English Pale Ale alongside a shot of whisky in a shot glass. Upon placing the drink in front of the patron, the patron then drops the shot glass into the beer and the quickly consumes as sip as the foam starts to overflow. The Dog’s Nose BoilermakerThe Dog’s Nose combines slightly less than a pint of English Pale Ale with a shot of gin slowly poured into the glass. In this way, the drink is already mixed when serving it to the customer. The Ginger Beer BoilermakerThe Ginger Beer Boilermaker is great to serve around holiday times when flavors such as spiced brandy make their way out of the liquor cabinet. In a pint of dark beer, pour one shot of ginger brandy into the glass and serve. The spice of the ginger will enhance the flavors of the dark ale. The Submarino BoilermakerPour one glass of Mexican beer into a glass. Then using a tall shot glass (a shot glass that holds two shots), fill it to the top with tequila. Drop the tequila into the beer glass and sip quickly as the foam starts to rise. The Vodka BoilermakerSince vodka has very little flavor, it is a great alcohol to maker a Boilermaker with because it will absorb the natural flavors of the beer. Use vodka when making a Boilermaker with a strong beer. Simply pour a glass of beer, fill a shot glass with vodka and drop the shot glass inside the beer glass.
