Want a drink that is refreshing and opens your palette? Try a Mojito.
The mojito is a classic Cuban cocktail that is perfect to have when cooling off during a hot day or to jump start the evening. It is simple to make as long as you have the right ingredients. History of the Mojito:According to the Bacardi Rum website, the mojito was first created in 1586 when English Queen Elizabeth the first authorized Captain Francis Drake and other pirates and corsairs to plunder the Spanish cities in the New World. They made a huge fortune out of this plundering that even rivaled the Queen's annual income, which led them to mix with the local culture and be able to introduce a concoction known as Draque to the Cuban population. At the time it was made from an earlier version of rum known as aguardiente which consisted of sugar, lime and mint and was mainly used for medicinal purposes. It was commonly believed that this would prevent people from catching cholera. After three centuries, the Draque was reinvented in the mid 19th century by the newly formed Bacardi Rum Company which was responsible for creating the Mojito and consisted of rum instead of aguardiente. A classic drink was made and millions of people throughout history and time have been able to enjoy a cocktail that has evolved for over four centuries. Ingredients Used To Make A Mojito:
