Rum drinks seem to go hand-in-hand with warm days and breezy nights. Why not try out these great summer cocktail recipes?
Ahh, summertime! It's hard to imagine anything better than warm, lazy days and nights, relaxing in a hammock, maybe strolling down the beach. But even if you don't have a hammock or a beach handy, you can get the same tropical feeling from these delicious rum cocktails.
Pour into a large Collins glass over cracked ice. Top off with club soda and stir. Garnish with a pineapple spear, cherry, and lemon or orange slice. Serve with straws. (This is a good drink for dark rums.)
Shake ingredients with cracked ice. Serve in a Collins glass, garnished with a cherry and orange slice.
The Bahama Mama is very similar to another classic drink, Planter's Punch.
Combine the juices, rum, and bitters in a shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with grenadine, and garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
Combine all ingredients in a blender with 2-3 ice cubes and blend until smooth. Pour over ice cubes in a tall glass, and garnish with an orange wedge and a cherry.
Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass with a sugared rim. Serve garnished with a lime wedge.
Mix all ingredients in a shake half filled with ice. Strain into an old fashioned glass half filled with crushed ice. To really get into the mood, decorate with a paper umbrella!
The Hurricane is a New Orleans invention, made famous by Pat O'Brien's bar in the French Quarter. It was created during World War II - whiskey was in short supply and bar owners were forced to use other liquors, such as rum, to keep going. At Pat O'Brien's, the drink is served in a special hurricane lamp glass.
In a cocktail shaker, add lemon juice, rum and syrup to crushed ice. Shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes and strain into a tall glass or hurricane glass. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry.
