Until this month, Great Divide was the only brewery in Colorado without a tap room. No more! On March 5, 2007, they opened up their cozy new tasting room. From what I hear, it's a comfortable spot, with two big windows looking into the production room. The tap room will be the new starting point for brewery tours (offered at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and hourly from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday), and looks like a big improvement over the the former starting point - a tap station in one corner of the main production room.
Great Divide promises to have 8 beers on tap, serving not only their regular offerings and seasonal beers, but also small batch beers that will be available only at the brewery.
If you're not familiar with Great Divide Brewing Company, it would be well worth your effort to give them a try. They're consistently one of the most decorated microbreweries in the United States. Four of their beers appeared in BeerAdvocate.com's 2006 list of "Top 50 American Craft Beers," and three were in RateBeer.com's 2007 list, "The Best Beers in the World," which ranks 100 top beers. Great Divide has also won 12 medals at the Great American Beer Festival (held each year in Denver), including 3 medals in 2006.
Great Divide's founder, Brian Dunn, had it right when he said, ”People want to see where their favorite beer is made, and meet the passionate people who brew them.” I'm hoping to make it to this year's festival, not only for the chance to enjoy the festival but also for a chance to check out this tap room!
