» Angie Rayfield - Can a virtual pub really work?

As I mentioned in the blog, CherryTAP has launched a new social networking site with a pub theme. It's been proven that social networking on the internet can work (just look at the popularity of MySpace!), but do you think the pub theme or pub experience can translate to the virtual world? Are you a CherryTAP member? Would you join? Do you belong to any other sites?

I've never heard of a "virtual pub" but for us teetotalling breast feeding Mama's maybe I should pop into one for a little "Wild Turkey"!

I think it could translate, but it may attract some of the wrong people and cause some drunken ramblings. Not much different than many other virtual communities now that I think on it.

Sounds like a chat room. Waaay back when chat rooms were new, I used to frequent them a lot. I told my husband, it's like going to a cocktail party where you make small talk all night with people you don't know and probably will never see again.
It's kinda like what I'm doing here. Can I go get a glass of wine real quick? I'm done writing for the day and I only have to run the vaccuum and brush the dog . . . There's a bottle of Merlot on my kitchen counter calling out my name!

I like Stumbleupon but had never heard of CherryTap. It definitely appeals to me, and i bet the opening hours are good! Thanks for mentioning it. Good luck with the site. I was tempted by it myself when I saw it didn't have an FW, but I was already spoken for on travel. Damn

You know, I hadn't thought about the hazards a teetotaller would face if he/she wanted to visit a pub! Hmmm, there's an interesting thought....
