After being banned for almost a hundred years, absinthe has made its return to the States, and we can finally indulge our curiosity about the liquor. Have you ever had absinthe? What did you think of it?

Years ago I found a few cocktail recipes calling for absinthe in old books, but never tried it. I even tried to find it in a liquor store, but of course they didn't carry it back then. It's use has been very controversial in the past. Maybe now that the ban has been lifted, we can finally taste the once forbidden fruit!

I've never tried it, but I absolutely love sambuca. I prefer black sambuca, but enjoy the white as well. Is absinthe similar to sambuca? They both involve licorice, I think.

Mmmmm.......licorice (and I hate black licorce, but love red! I love Black Bart gum, too -- did you ever try that? Mmmm....gum....).

I thought the anise flavor was even more pronounced in the absinthe than in the sambuca, but I haven't tried a side-by-side tasting. And I don't think I will, actually!
